Hi, How Are You?

We took these pictures months ago. I actually thought I’d put them up already. I sort of dressed like a ridiculous cartoon character on this day so it seemed fitting to run into this crazy mural. I have no idea how I’d never spotted it before?! It is just tucked away running off Franklin street (I think) in the city and covers quite a bit of length down the street. I don’t know anything about it other than I think it’s cute and that I wish there was more of this wall art around the place. It adds so much colour and interest to an otherwise dull little street. It was particularly lucky that I dressed like a 90’s teenager on this day to match the wall.

Being eaten by a garage monster. I’m pretty sure I’d be tasteless and stringy by now.

It kinda appears that I’m performing some kind of dance move. I’m pretty sure I would have been swatting flies or something.

Often where the finger should be pointed.

The obligatory playing-with-my-hair photo. There’s one in every session.

I’ve Been Moving So Long The Days All Feel The Same.

For those of you that didn’t know, today marked the end of an era. After six years of working for myself and being part of my own little world we shut the doors of our little business. It’s been a long time in the works and wasn’t a decision made easily. 24/7 stress and being on call and switched on ALL the time has certainly left me a bit frayed and wanting of something simpler and easier…. for the time being in any case! It’s bitter sweet. I”ll certainly miss the freedoms and people I’ve been so lucky to encounter a long the way but it gives me a new space and clear head to move on with new things. I’m an employee now rather than an employer which in itself is a new adjustment. Something I didn’t really think I’d do again.I must say though, it is kinda nice to remove a few (like a hundred) layers of stress. Also there are new exciting things in the works but for now I’m just happy to keep things a little more laid back. I’m still having fun on the side with dirt(y) and who knows where that might take me. I never would have expected a box of cereal to pay my wages and several other peoples for all these years but strange things happen right?!

In any case, when I get moving and hauling stuff around, I get back to comfortable and what I know. Basically I dress like I’m 15. Actually,  I have owned this jacket since I was 15. Maybe younger even. Once upon a time when parkas were THE indie kid item. Proof that through everything some things will never change!

Hey Man If We Just Found Irony Do You Know How Ironic That Would Be?

Today I did something I’d been meaning to do for quite a while. Don’t get too excited…. I went to Target. Oh my, I do really, really like target. I can’t explain why, I’m just always impressed. We always go over to Newton so on our way home went for a little stroll at Morialta. The weather was kinda perfect today, cold but sunny. I think my favourite. Unfortunately after eating an entire packet of gummy bears in about five minutes, moving was not on the top of my to do list. Oh well. Best intentions and all that.

I always feel like I have to explain this t-shirt. Yes, I know Van Halen are awful but some stuff is kinda alright which makes it ok to wear a shirt in hipster ironic style fashion. No matter your thoughts on their tunes, they always made amazing tees. All of them. Every one colourful and crazy and an awful lot of attention and detail put into their artwork. Yes yes. I know. Still unforgivable.

Everytime I put it on it makes me think of the Bondi Hipsters. I love these guys. They nail it totally. And hey, we’re all a little bit guilty of it… no?

Why the face? Well, it was stuffed full of gummy bears. I can’t stop when I start!

My bag was going to be a temporary measure to fit my laptop in after my other one was pinched. It turns out the $30 sale bag has become much more loved and a keeper than I had anticipated.

Fluffy Hair! It’s so trashed. I wonder why?…..

Hey You! Why so serious?

Ok, that’s more like it.

I’m pretty sure I could fill this blog exclusively with pictures of me scratching my head. Weird.

The Paints Peeling Off The Streets Again.

The past few weeks have been full of busy and crazy changes for me. Sixteen hour days are starting to take their toll and weekends (If I manage to get a day) are becoming more and more about lazing around and doing not much. Just standing or sitting still without speaking for more than ten minutes is a luxury at the moment! That said, I look forward to getting the cozy clothes out. The tees and trashed boots and big coats. This coat is probably my favourite thing I own. I’d say I’ve had it for a good ten years or so. Does anyone remember when Cheekee was on Rundle street? It sold Japanese and Asian cute way before anyone did. I think they shut their doors just before the whole world started to catch on. Oh well. I remember I couldn’t afford this jacket (it was about $450) at the time and waited and waited and waited for it to reduce. Patience is not one of my attributes but it paid off. After what seemed like an eternity I ended up snagging it for $50. Probably the most well used $50 I’ve ever spent!

This afternoon we played hooligans, investigating abandoned buildings and such. I don’t know why, Ive just always liked that. I think I kinda had a misguided youth kinda thing going on with the hair and jacket so lucky none called the cops. That would have been super annoying…

Notice the can of petrol… I think someone had ideas for this building….

I love it. Every window smashed and half boarded up. All the insides of the building just decayed and left to rot.

The paints peeling off. Get it? Reference to my chosen song for a change!

The Jesus t-shirt is a joke. Everyone realises that right? RIGHT?!

And Pink Versus Black, Black Versus Magenta.

I haven’t Taken a picture all week. Out the door before light and back in when it’s dark. Not great photo taking stuff. Luckily photo booth washes me out with white light so you can’t see the bags under my eyes and the tired in my face. What you can see is hair dye left in way too long.  I think I’m too scared to like it. Too bright!!! I am scared of slipping back into the 90’s….. Some teenage loved ambient-trip-hop-pop-whatever  to back up my theory…

Be Sure To Leave Your Underpants With Someone You Can Trust.

That line is from Jethro Tull. Not me. I’ve always found his music and lyrics kinda amusing. I’m not sure if I like it or not but I grew up on it because for some strange reason my dad was completely wowed. I’m not really sure what it was about them, I just remember being subjected to hour long versions of Aqualung and other strange noises. Weirdly, this t-shirt does not conjure up images of Jethro Tull. This tee screams “country” and it just seems plain wrong. In any case, I felt too neat and tidy in a shirt and sensible shoes so I had to throw it on. It is entirely possible I slept in it the night before. I can’t be sure. It was on my floor. It’s hard to tell…..The smooshed to the side beanie makes me feel ridiculous. I didn’t realise it looked like that….

The Sunlight’s Making Me Feel Paranoid.

Lately we just don’t seem to be able to get any photos before the light goes down. Yesterday we managed to find some overgrown suburban wasteland with about ten minutes before we lost the sun. The fading light made the depressing abandoned lot seem a whole lot more sad and depressing. I like that! Just when I thought nothing exciting could possibly happen… Voila! I found a coat rack lying abandoned in the weeds. Poor coat rack. I thought it was best to give it one last chance at life. I wonder how it got there?  I was temporarily entertained…

Purple! (again)

Random stinky old suitcase. It was all beaten up but had some awesome orange neon straps. Small things get me excited.

Tried and true sunnies. I always go back to them.

I was REALLY happy with my discovery in the weeds….

It’s a coat rack! Of course!

She’s Like A Rainbow.

I’ve recently become super obsessed with cotton candy colours again. It’s something that surfaces in me every once in a while but this time it’s extended to the hair. True, I’ve been both pink and/or purple for some time now but until this morning I’d never really mastered the rainbow effect without looking all stripy which i loathe. I keep accidentally matching clothes and hair together too but whatever. One interesting thing about unnatural coloured hair; When you’re a teenager, adults and in particular old folk scoff at you. Well, different story when you’re an adult yourself. I have never had so many old ladies (I’m talking 70+)  come up to me and compliment me on my pastel hair. Apparently old ladies really do love a pink or purple rinse! I’m not sure what this face or pose is about but it was the only full shot where I’m not closing my eyes or making a worse face.

Jumper: Seed (kids), Shirt: American Apparel, Jeans: Acne, Boots: Thrifted (I refer to them as my Hooker boots).

I think this is my “I can see you taking pictures of me” face.

I really wanted to get a good shot of how I somehow managed to blend all the pastels into a rainbow effect. I’m actually really happy with it. I’m NEVER happy with my hair. This should explain why it changes cut and colour on pretty much a weekly basis. Pity this will all wash out in a few days. I’m thinking I might get some blue and orange dyes. Give them a shot while the platinum is still white.
