I Don’t Need A Smile From A Mannequin.

I’m really glad I didn’t do one of those New Years Resolution posts… In my mind I WAS going to update this thing at least once a week (shouldn’t be hard at all really) but three weeks in and this is the first. Not only is it the first but it is severely lacking in content. I can safely say that before I even finish typing. Basically, the point of this outfit picture is just because I was so ridiculously happy at my $5 K-Mart Kids dress. It makes me feel very nautical and like I’m in primary school. As a bonus I found matchy matchy earrings in my jewellery box that were a perfect fit. Also, I like the blue hair but that’s long gone. By about two weeks. That’s a long time in my hair world…..IMG_4146

Slightly unusual face that one there.

I hope you can’t see my knickers. I’m pretty sure you can’t but my eyes are bad.

So You Think You’re In The Middle Of The Ocean.

The beach was being rather disagreeable with me this past weekend. I got sandblasted and seemed to end up in some kind of strange trance from all the sun exposure. I’m really not a summer person so it takes me a little adjusting. I have been trying my hardest to dress girly and summery. Despite most of my pics, my default clothing is layers of black and heavy boots. Girly doesn’t come particularly naturally so I can tend to go over the top. This skirt really isn’t my typical purchase but I found it adorable as soon as I saw it. It looks soft and frilly but is actually quite a stiff fabric. I like that. I’d never heard of this brand Passion Fusion that I found at LAX Fashion  but I quite like all they have on offer. Cute stuff! Plus little stuff. Perfect for me!

There’s A Lilac Tree Named After You.

So, I’ve been doing something that I typically don’t do….. comfort dressing. I’m almost ashamed to say it. Not that I’ve ever been the type of girl that wears heels all day and teeters around but I have always been a fan of the jeans so tight they’re practically compression stockings. I like it. I find something comforting about skin tight denim. They are essentially my version of a hugging machine. So now and then I look at pants and have mixed emotions. They always look sooo comfortable but in fabric that thin I might as well not be wearing pants. This is my strange logic. In any case, I saw these pants at the Supre clearance shop (a store I like a little bit too much given my usual taste) for $5.50 and I thought worst case scenario I’ll wear them around the house. Turns out I kinda like them. I feel like a different person in this more puffy silhouette though. WEIRD!

There it is… the hair flicking shot.

Your butt feels everything when it’s only covered in a thin layer of cotton. None of that tough denim protection!

It’s rare for me to admit but I’m actually really liking my hair colour at the moment. Pity it will wash out before I next leave the house. Also, I’m so glad I got these glasses. I almost didn’t because of the weird colour but I actually kinda love them now. Win!

Hi, How Are You?

We took these pictures months ago. I actually thought I’d put them up already. I sort of dressed like a ridiculous cartoon character on this day so it seemed fitting to run into this crazy mural. I have no idea how I’d never spotted it before?! It is just tucked away running off Franklin street (I think) in the city and covers quite a bit of length down the street. I don’t know anything about it other than I think it’s cute and that I wish there was more of this wall art around the place. It adds so much colour and interest to an otherwise dull little street. It was particularly lucky that I dressed like a 90’s teenager on this day to match the wall.

Being eaten by a garage monster. I’m pretty sure I’d be tasteless and stringy by now.

It kinda appears that I’m performing some kind of dance move. I’m pretty sure I would have been swatting flies or something.

Often where the finger should be pointed.

The obligatory playing-with-my-hair photo. There’s one in every session.

I’ve Been Moving So Long The Days All Feel The Same.

For those of you that didn’t know, today marked the end of an era. After six years of working for myself and being part of my own little world we shut the doors of our little business. It’s been a long time in the works and wasn’t a decision made easily. 24/7 stress and being on call and switched on ALL the time has certainly left me a bit frayed and wanting of something simpler and easier…. for the time being in any case! It’s bitter sweet. I”ll certainly miss the freedoms and people I’ve been so lucky to encounter a long the way but it gives me a new space and clear head to move on with new things. I’m an employee now rather than an employer which in itself is a new adjustment. Something I didn’t really think I’d do again.I must say though, it is kinda nice to remove a few (like a hundred) layers of stress. Also there are new exciting things in the works but for now I’m just happy to keep things a little more laid back. I’m still having fun on the side with dirt(y) and who knows where that might take me. I never would have expected a box of cereal to pay my wages and several other peoples for all these years but strange things happen right?!

In any case, when I get moving and hauling stuff around, I get back to comfortable and what I know. Basically I dress like I’m 15. Actually,  I have owned this jacket since I was 15. Maybe younger even. Once upon a time when parkas were THE indie kid item. Proof that through everything some things will never change!

Only Because I’m Greener Than Green.

Oooh I’m loving this cold. Of course I complain about being cold the entire time but I love boots and jeans and layers as previously (about every post I think) mentioned. This morning I had an “oh my god how could I forget that?” moment when I spotted my ridiculously over sequinned jacket in the closet. It is squished full of them. SO many silver fleckles! Anyway, it seemed like a way to make the green hair and ripped jeans more fancy. Oh, and the necklace. Come to think of it I’m not sure what I was trying to achieve….

I am a BIG fan of a sequin in the daytime. Or anytime for that matter!

My face is doing something weird here but look at the necklace! Love it!

I know these jeans are too tight and too small but the shirt is cut like a tux jacket. Not just a black shirt to me.

Pre-crinkled, but I could have done that myself.

Action shot! Real actual work!

I’m Going Back To Charm School.

Homework and bookwork. Oh joy. That’s what today consisted of. I don’t completely mind though. I’m never in my house during light hours and it’s really quite nice to work in during the sunlight hours. Living in a glass house really has it’s perks. I’m not one for artificial lighting and climate and no windows so it’s a nice way to recharge in a not wasting any resources kinda way… Oh, that made me sound like a hippy. Oh well. I dyed my hair green too. It’s sorta gross but I kinda love it too. It doesn’t photograph too well because of the light but it’s minty apple green. It actually turned out the shade I wanted. I’m as surprised as you are!

I feel like I’m channeling Terry Richardson here.

Oooh, it’s all so serious…. My team of helpers looking on.

She Said Come Over Come Over.

Today we went for a freezing cold country drive. By country I mean five minutes out of Mt Barker to Nairn. By my understanding of country, anything more then 20 minutes out of town is rural. I’m always surprised by how quickly city turns to country landscape. I guess that’s the hills for you. Well, apparently Nairn has a lot to offer as far as photo taking opportunities are concerned. Never one to pass up a dilapidated, decaying background, the old train station worked out a treat. We might even have broken some rules and wandered around on the platform. Oops! Anyone heading through the hills, go see Belinda at Millies. She makes a mean coffee. Definitely warmed me up to get the courage to take these outside. Oh, and yes, I know I am wearing shorts but they are CORDUROY. I know thats a crime to some but at least my butt was toasty warm. Sadly my legs couldn’t say the same.

The steel train tracks were a little cold on the backside. How about FREEZING!!

This jacket didn’t fare so well. Pretty much filthy. I can’t do light colours. It’s a fact.

I really thought I was going to be able to push this old crane around on its spinner. Um, no.

This is me channeling Where’s Wally.

Looking like I’ve just done something really bad…

Hey Man If We Just Found Irony Do You Know How Ironic That Would Be?

Today I did something I’d been meaning to do for quite a while. Don’t get too excited…. I went to Target. Oh my, I do really, really like target. I can’t explain why, I’m just always impressed. We always go over to Newton so on our way home went for a little stroll at Morialta. The weather was kinda perfect today, cold but sunny. I think my favourite. Unfortunately after eating an entire packet of gummy bears in about five minutes, moving was not on the top of my to do list. Oh well. Best intentions and all that.

I always feel like I have to explain this t-shirt. Yes, I know Van Halen are awful but some stuff is kinda alright which makes it ok to wear a shirt in hipster ironic style fashion. No matter your thoughts on their tunes, they always made amazing tees. All of them. Every one colourful and crazy and an awful lot of attention and detail put into their artwork. Yes yes. I know. Still unforgivable.

Everytime I put it on it makes me think of the Bondi Hipsters. I love these guys. They nail it totally. And hey, we’re all a little bit guilty of it… no?

Why the face? Well, it was stuffed full of gummy bears. I can’t stop when I start!

My bag was going to be a temporary measure to fit my laptop in after my other one was pinched. It turns out the $30 sale bag has become much more loved and a keeper than I had anticipated.

Fluffy Hair! It’s so trashed. I wonder why?…..

Hey You! Why so serious?

Ok, that’s more like it.

I’m pretty sure I could fill this blog exclusively with pictures of me scratching my head. Weird.

Be Sure To Leave Your Underpants With Someone You Can Trust.

That line is from Jethro Tull. Not me. I’ve always found his music and lyrics kinda amusing. I’m not sure if I like it or not but I grew up on it because for some strange reason my dad was completely wowed. I’m not really sure what it was about them, I just remember being subjected to hour long versions of Aqualung and other strange noises. Weirdly, this t-shirt does not conjure up images of Jethro Tull. This tee screams “country” and it just seems plain wrong. In any case, I felt too neat and tidy in a shirt and sensible shoes so I had to throw it on. It is entirely possible I slept in it the night before. I can’t be sure. It was on my floor. It’s hard to tell…..The smooshed to the side beanie makes me feel ridiculous. I didn’t realise it looked like that….
